So im looking at doing a swap to a 9" axle in my car but if i do that i wanna go to 31 spline will i need to anything to the drive shaft or C4 tranny if i do this?  The axle im getting is fully rebuilt pulled out of an old Ford Pick up.

maybe the u-joint size. If you do grab the new 9" diff, you can saddle up the existing u-joint on your driveshaft. and if it fits snugged. If anything I would  think the u-joint is smaller right now on your existing set-up. IMO.

Not sure if the driveshaft needs some de-extenze for the 9" since the pinion may stick more out.

The 31 splines has not direct bearing on the C-4 or the driveshaft in terms of equipment change.
What differential will you step up too? Do your research and talk to the larger ring-pinion retailers about what the diff that should be used. Eaton and Trac-Loc styles (clutch plates to help the limit are excellent for the street and good horsepower.)

I was looking into one of eatons new Posi differentials but i havent made a 100% decision yet its between an Eaton and a Detroit TruTack  Im also gonna go up to 3.80 gears
