Howzittt.

Just sold my 02 GT and picked up an 07 GT.  The 07 has a Novi Paxton S/C and was also tuned for a 100 shot nitrous that is installed on the car.  I guess the previous owner had a local mechanic do the tune.  He's currently deployed but I can email him with specific questions if needed.  My question's to you guru's out there are:

1.  It looks as if he maintained the stock axle back exhaust and though I would like to throw on an x-pipe later, will I need a re-tune if I just switch out the mufflers on this thing?

2.  Do you think the after S/C tune shut down the rear o2 sensors?  I know I'll probably have to check with the tuner.

3.  The car runs real strong with a nice boost to it.  All gauges (this thing is setup like a fighter jet) read strong across the board.  However, the check engine light is on?  Is it possible that because of the tune and mods that it is throwing code.  Will I need to pick up a predator or something to run a diagnostic and shutdown the CEL?

Thanks for your help.  07 newb here.

1. The only tune you will need with an offroad X pipe is to turn the sensors off.

2. Running a s/c and nos on a stock block is a little risky.

3. On the cod cel, get a SCT, most people deal with that around here, plus they are a little nicer imho. If the car was tuned correctly there should be no code.

The bottom end was re-built with forged internals almost two years ago.  I haven't split open the motor to check but the owner maintained all the receipts from the build.  I'll need to dig into the CEL matter abit more I reckon.  Looks like I'll need to pickup a handheld tuner.  My only worry is that since the ecu was already tuned, the handheld may not work since the factory tune is not on the motor. It will want to save it but most likely won't accept it.  Do you think I'll need to contact paxton for their tune?

honestly, I have a paxton, and I have found that brenspeed does the best tunes for them...for 75 bucks...they will tune for the nitrous too.

yeah unfortunately since you never got the handheld with the car the stock tune is lost. I think your right in thinking the handheld wont mate to your car because it already has a tune. The only way to get the stock tune is to have a ford dealer reflash the car. might be best to find out who did the tuning. Bring em by my shop (if you remember where its at) and I can scan it with my sct to see what's causing the code. Nothing will beat a dyno tune, as you know every car is different...

if your just changing the mufflers you wont need a new tune, but like what was said above, if you change to an o/r mid pipe you will need to retune.  although I wouldn't be surprised if your rear o2's are already turned off.

SCT hands down better than preditor...

thanks dlrs;  I remember your shop and my wife still loves the koa jewelry box.  I just realized that one of the gauges I have installed in this beast has a scan mode and the capabiliy to clear the CEL.  I going to try to use it to diagnose the problem and if it doesn't work I'll let you know.

I was able to pull the codes through the interceptor gauges that are installed.  I got a P0171 (system too lean bank 1) and a P0174 (system too lean bank 2).  Does anyone know if these are related to the O2 sensors?  I cleared the codes but figure they will return sooner or later if there is a problem.  I guess I'll stay out of boost until I figure it out.

What's your vacuum at at idle? should be around 21-22in. Anything less you got a leak. Probably agood thing to clean the MAF just to be safe but I would think you'd have some type of stumbling with a dirty MAF

here's a list just for reference of all the trouble codes
http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=774

could be the o2's but, Id lean more toward the tune. pull your plugs to check how she's running. if you still got the stock plugs Id recommend a new set 1 step colder.  Most with FI have had good success with brisk or HT0's  I've got the HT0's and like em.
