You can run the stock shocks but with a 2" lowering, chances of you bottoming out the shocks are greater.

I have an 01 as well with 2inch drop. I bet its ur passenger side huh?. On the 01 I've noticed one side of the rear is off set for some reason. I have the same issue only thing to do is roll both fenders, or lifting it back up. We all know rolling fenders is best bet

On my 01 I did. It is that a few days ago that the rear wheel on my passenger side sticks out slightly more. But it my driver side rear tire that got stripped a little on the outside. But I dnt think it was my springs that caused that to happen I'm sure it was my shock and that side. It was completely worn and when I hit bumpbs it just rubbe real hard.

Maybe you should take a picture of the damage and post it up.

If u don't roll fenders with a 2inch drop and go sideways up driveway or large speed bumps cause the sides depending on how u go up incline to tuck under fender thus botoming out on unrolled fender to slice in to tire.

When the rearend housing articulates, that's when the tire can come in contact with the fender lip thus scraping the sidewalls of the tire.

Fox/SN95 Mustangs (IRS Cobras being the exception) have very poor means of keeping the rear axle centered under the vehicle. You are getting some side to side movement as it articulates up and down - especially while turning. Couple that with the axle not being exactly centered in relation to the chassis plus your wider than stock rear wheels & tires. Give the fender lip rolling thing a go - lessen the damage to the outer sidewalls at the minimum. May want to check if your rear shocks still have the bump stops on them too.
