Definitely a great track yesterday.  Rick, wow...imagine if you had a few more runs in that Camaro you may have beaten the Z06 (on race tires).  I'm convinced now that I'll continue to run the cobra in 1st gear the entire track, with yesterday's layout being what I considered the fastest setup yet, i should be fine without 2nd gear.   I think I found a home now in CP.  With Matt, Davin ,in the Camaro, and more HPMer's this should be a great class.  Come on out guys...don't worry about the mods, let's just have fun!

Thanks, Jon!  That car was a beast!  I didn't realize he had some so much done to the car.  He did some motor work to it, including a new cam - didn't get the specs, exhaust (obviously) and some significant suspension and brake work.  Those Stoptechs on the front were amazing!  By the third run, I was figuring out how to plant the front end and turn in with those big 295s.  I dunno if I coulda got much more out of the car with just seat time...  maybe a low 37, maaaaaybe a very high 36, but Jon with the other black Camaro was running in the 35s, and Rs at that level will drop about 2 seconds... so I was right on par with the limits of the street tires.  That felt good, but I know Jon (or Aaron, Bren, Cory...) woulda outdrove me.  I still have lots to learn.

Were you running in 1st the whole time?  You looked pretty smooth, but I didn't notice the engine winding out.  If you're redlining alot - Dave's Camaro hit the limiter in ony one area for a couple seconds - our cars have enough torque that you can take off, then hit second and use that all the way around.  That's what I was doing with the Impala once I went to 3.73s.

Yeah, I drove pretty much in first for the last 3 runs without hitting the rev limiter.  I realized that I didn't need 2nd gear because as I was coming around the top tight turn and again at the bottom I would have needed to go back to first, thus losing me time.   I realized that the 4V mod motors like high rpms and I didn't stomp the throttle or brakes very much.  Just trying to be smooth in the transiitions.  I'll experiment a little more but for now I think my 3.73s are just fine.

i went to second just after the first turn, but at the end of the loop it would want to bog. i ended up just riding the clutch a little bit. but on my last run i missed the shift to second...

i would hit 6k in first before the first turn and hit the limiter.

Yea, this course was great for tall geared cars.  Dave's Camaro was juuuuust a touch over-geared, but on a tighter track, his car is going to tear it up.  Quite a few autocrossers - my uncle's Karmann Ghia included - often live or die based on gearing.  1 or second is too muhc, 2nd or 3rd is too little.  If you were winding out 1st gear before that first sweeping right, then yea, you got too much gear.  I woulda banged second before you turned, kept on second, and then tried to downshift before the u-turn in the crosssover.  Then hit second again powering out of that u-turn.  Hold second to the end.

You still did great and it's so cool to see new drivers out there.  I didn't realize Dave was just a half second behind me...  holy cow, that guy is getting good!  Can't wait for the next race!  Woohoo!
