can't beat this Mustang for name recognition
but i guess if you want to sell Fords to a bunch of small engine loving europeans,
then you race around around a track with a 600 HP ecoboost and not a 10,000 HP American car like this:

The development of the Ford GT came out of the Ford Shelby GT350 program.  Raj Nair (Global Development) and the Ford Performance Team wanted to get into competing in GTLM class against Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, etc. Originally the Ford GT350R with the flat plane crank engine was going to be the contender to once again enhance Ford attention in the world market, principally Europe and South America, where F1, Lemans and Tudor series bring attention.

But after testing of the modified twin turbo 600 HP V^ and its subsequent prototype win at Sebring, the international premier racing focus went to powering the Ford GT with the V6 and move it into GTE-LM class. NASCAR is helping sales.  But John Force and all his wins wasn't working towards the the overall U.S. and global market.  So the monies and Ford Racing Team development went to the Ford Shelby GT350 and Ford GT, with the latter getting the twin turbo.  This type of racing developments the whole car for drivetrain, suspension, chassis, brakes, etc. for longer races and endurance, not cars running a straight line for a couple of seconds.  Ford is probably missing the overall market here based on audience appeal and advertising attention.

Even the Ford Raptor is coming back for Baja off road competition with the eco V6.  Maybe that is to appease the F-150 crowd who are not happy about the latest engine options.

Corporate politics that the average guys like us cannot fathom.

Silent running happenings in that direction for the next Super Cobra Jet.  May be showcased in 2017.  A lot of Skunk Works secret projects in development at Ford Performance Development Team shop, but like the top secret Ford GT project (a three year deal) and Ford 5.2 flat plane crank engine, no prior confirmations until development and testing finished.
